76 Years and Counting

Since 1949, The Justice, the award-winning independent student newspaper of Brandeis University, has been
committed to keeping the campus informed and nurturing an environment of journalistic excellence. With your support, we can ensure that The Justice continues to capture campus life and cultivate a vibrant, unique community for the next 76 years and beyond.

Printing accounts for over 75% of our annual budget and is currently our biggest area of need. In FY23, it cost $34,000 to produce 21 print issues. This year, we received only $22,000 for printing, even after filing an appeal, resulting in an enormous deficit. Print publications are in danger, but we are not ready to stop serving our community. Our priority is to continue publishing a weekly print newspaper in full color and to provide an unparalleled newsroom experience for student journalists.

Behind the production of our weekly newspaper lies a foundation of essential operational costs. From maintaining our website, publishing the full print issue onto a third-party site, staying in touch with the community and alumni through our newsletter, to upkeeping the Google accounts we use to communicate as a staff, The Justice requires a significant budget to finance the backbone of the newspaper. Additionally, it is important that we can provide our hardworking editors with updated and properly working technology — whether that be cameras or computers — so they can produce their best work.

Our newspaper is thriving: our diverse staff is comprised of over 30 editors and 25 staff members and our website has over 200,000 unique viewers. Our first-hand reporting is more vital than ever as administrative and structural changes unfold at the university and beyond, making your support even more impactful.
